HOORAY!!!!
Tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 4am we're leaving on an 11 hour drive to northern Minnesota about 1 mile from Canada!!!!!
This is usually my favorite event of the year. We'll be there for a total of 9 days, but we'll actually be gone from the house for about 10.
My family owns a small (actually VERY small ) cabin right on a lake, which is then right next to Voyageurs National Park .
There's a fairly large (for the area) resort on the lake also where we store our boat for the winter, and get stuff and eat there sometimes, and get a bunch of other services and stuff. It's a family owned resort so we know them and they know us.
We always go there every year for vacation and it's GREAT! There's a bunch of things to do but mostly we just swim . Our cabin can only be accessed by boat, and there's pure wilderness all around it (except for the other cabins on the edge of the lake). There's an outhouse, and a huge flat rock (well, basically the whole area has just ROCK for a ground) great for a nice big bonfire PERFECT for S'mores. There's also a wild blueberry patch nearby and we usually have blueberry pancakes one morning after spending a few hours picking them. Lucky for us we found the most bestest awesomest greatest beach in the lake! lol we usually go there literally EVERY DAY!!! It's sooooo fun. We spend the first half of the day doing any work that needs to be done, or just hang out, then we spend the second half of the day till about 7 swimming at the beach!! Other places to visit include a gorge with a waterfall a short drive away, the small town on the lake with a nice restaurant and ice cream shop. There used to be a trading post next to the US/Canada Customs, but it closed this year (they sold these GIANT popsicles that we got every year ). One time we went to a VERY small island called My Island about 40 mins away in a boat. The beach is REALLY nice, and the sand in the water is black . It's got a little picnic area too.
The cabin is really old. I think either 50 or 30 years old . It's got 2 small bedrooms, a small kitchen, a small family room, and a tiny bathroom (with an incinerating toilet ). It's really fun though.
I'm sooo excited because in just about 7.5 hours we'll be on our way!
Usually we have no internet access let alone a computer (no tv programs!). But this year the resort got Wi-Fi and my uncle has his computer up there. (he'll be staying with us too). So now I'll be able to occasionally post! YAY!!!
