Yeah I agree with iMac: it wouldn't be apple's style to add a touchscreen to the imac or macbook pro. Usability is key and that would not be usable.
Apple's future operating systems are going to be the beginning of the end. Closed-architecture, I'm out.

Yeah I've been pretty mixed about Apple over the last couple of months. Especially after I got the latest generation iPod touch, I've been frustrated with some key things that used to be great on the first generation iPod touch. As "focused" as Apple's strategy is, I've increasingly been noticing a "conglomeration" (in other words the opposite of focused) of software technologies, most of which is great stuff, but when you put it all together, there seems to be less cooperation than in the past. Part of the reason is probably because we have too damn many Apple products, and I'm basically the only person who knows how to use a computer effectively, so I have to teach everything to my family.
I've been nervous about the "iTunes effect" (the "tunes" in iTunes is now about 10% of what it does...) being manifested in the rest of Apple's software, both under the hood and user-feature-wise. If you look at the iPhoto library package contents for each successive version of it, it gets more and more chaotic each time. And as the raw computing power and storage of the hardware becomes greater (this sort of relates to my overly pessimistic comment about society and tech) there's really no incentive to "clean it [the software] up".
The Mac App Store is another bad sign for the future (both big picture and small picture, like the logistics of it), but there's a lot they could easily fix.
Despite the warning signs, for now I find Apple to be the best choice, and they could do awesome things in the future, even if it's not terribly likely.
Now let's see what comments I have to say about this post in 2012!
