I HAVE A NEW COMPUTER!! I'M SO HAPPY!! HIP HIP HOORAY! Better yet we have Wi-Fi now!!
(hehe I'm sitting on my bed typing this! It ROCKS!!!)
Well, since the beginning of 2007, we decided that we would DEFINITELY get a new computer within a month or so-ish of when shcool starts (for me, this Monday ). But then, as the summer went by we decided we'd better get one before it starts. We attempted to purchase one the way home from some relative of mine's wedding aniversary. That was on Sunday. That coming Thurdsday was the day we left for Minnesota. At the store though, we thought we could get the teacher discounts even if my mom wasn't there, but no. (how stupid, cuz you can 100% lie about being a teacher if you buy one online and you'll never be questioned... or so we were told). Anyways, we were like, aw, what the heck, we'll wait till after Minnesota.
Ok, ya know what, I just might be in the mood for telling about my Minnesota trip! I had no intention of this whatsoever but since I'm at that point of time in my blog, I might as well
So, on Thursday, August 9th, we wake up at about 3:45 and (oh crap, just realized most of my story of this will be a ton of guesses. This was over a week ago.) most likely took a shower . Anyways, we were on the road at right about 4:30. On the trip there, we stop at a Starbucks for breakfast (muffinz!!!!!!!!!) and do random things along the way. While in the car, I mostly slept in the morning, listened to my iPod Shuffle for a tiny bit (I get bored with music fast...), and watched the kinda interesting events/things/people/cars/random stuff outside our car. We (just me/dad/sister were in the car. My mom/brother went up earlier) had a lot of random conversations too (as opposed to silence) and it kept the ride not deathly boring. When we reached a small-ISH town about 2-ISH hours from the resort, we stopped at Super One Foods (GO SUPER ONE!!!! [plugs in power suply for comp (go magnetic connections!!)] to buy all the groceries we'd need for 9.5-ish days. We stopped at a KFC and a McDonald's next for lunch, and headed north! One interesting thing we witnessed on the way was workers laying dynamite to blow out some rock to make way for a larger highway. Nearby they also had gigantic fires of burning (stuff???) and it was extremely hot. You could feel a very strong heat through the car and the fire was like 50-100 feet away.
Finally, we make it to the resort on the lake. We unpack everything into the boat and we find my uncle in the bar with his laptop looking for jobs. (oh what a surprise ). The 4 of us ride across the lake to the cabin, and whatdyaknow! one side of the dock is underwater! Turns out that one of the super-duper floatation deivces for one corner of the dock was pushed to the opposite side by waves from a 50mph wind storm! Well, we can deal with it. It's just an inconveinence. FINALLY, A YEAR IN WHICH WE DON'T HAVE TO CLEAN THE WHOLE CABIN BEFORE WE DO ANYTHING! YAYAYAYAY! My aunt/uncle/cousins were staying in it the week before. So we unpack everything and hop in the boat and head for the beach! Ahhhhh... how relaxing . The water's great too! After the beach, we come home, cook something up (no idea what), clean up, then crash on the futon and watch a movie. Thus ends my first day at my cabin.
Most days are in that format; do SOMETHING (or nothing ), go to the beach/lunch, eat dinner, and then watch a movie. (EVERY SINGLE NIGHT we were there we watched a movie . The typical bedtime was between 10pm and 12am with occasionally going near 12:30-ish. (lol isnt that when most of YOU go to bed on a NORMAL night? )
All the things (to the best of my memory) that I did: (and the order may be messed up too)
-Make S'Mores over a fire pit near the cabin. We actually made FIRES about 4 times (YAY FIRE!!!!!!) over the trip, but only on the first day did we actually cook s'mores with it. (oops, forgot to add that. oh well). Towards the end of our trip, the Forest Service actually issued a fire ban because it was so dry! Good thing we were leaving soon after .
-Take pictures. TOOMANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, at the end of it all, we had 430+ photos from less than 10 days!!!!!!! Basically all of them were mine . Plus, half of those were then stupid and pointless. We had just gotten a new 2GB SD card, so I wasn't concerned for memory space. Therefore I just shot away at anything that moved basically . heh... we still haven't deleted any of them from the computer...
-Explore. The area where we're at is very well mapped and everything, but there's basically no developement other than the cabins/phone poles/random unused trails. So one day me/dad/brother went out on a hike in the wilderness behind our cabin. We found a buncha trails, mostly for snowmobiles. I brought along my GPS to see where we went. The hike was about 2 miles long with very rocky/hilly/brushy terrain. That's a nice hike. It was really fun, because you could choose where YOU wanted to go and there was no trails at all to follow. You could go anywhere!
-Go canoeing... illegally . Yep, the canoe's registration was about 13 years out of date. Oh well, we just kept real near our dock and no one was gonna do anything about us anyways. (there was like no one on the lake anyways). Canoe's are really fun. I love going alone. It's fun to learn how to steer it; paddling forwards/backwards while on the left or right side. We should've gotten the canoe out in previous years...
-Visit a bear sanctuary. About an hour away there's a strangely busy wildlife sanctuary. We went once a long time ago, so we wanted to try it again this year. It was pretty cool. The bears there a EXTREMELY healthy. Their coats are sooooo shiny! They're WAY better fed than any normal bear. But they still are wild bears. There're no boundaries or anything. Just an area where the bears can come to get "gormet" food for free! I took about 50-100 pics of bears alone....
-Go the Dam restaurant . LOL the most clever name i ever heard. My sister got a pic of herself standing in front of the Dam Restaurant. For once you got to use dam(n) as an adjective for ANYTHING! The food was pretty good too
-Portage to a lake. After taking a 40 minutes boat ride (passing Hang Man’s Island along the way ) along the Canadian border, we came to a portage back south to a solitary lake. Lucky for us there was no one there. It was pretty cool too. We did a tiny bit of exploring and then we just sat and enjoyed the day
-Go to My Island. A few years ago for some reason we decided to go to a faraway island near Canada. The boat ride there was 13.6 miles and it took us about 30+ (I think) minutes. (going about 29-30mph for 13.6 miles. Do the math, I’m lazy). Unluckily for us, that day was extremely windy. All over the lakes. So when we got there, the most awesomest bestest beach was too cold and windy to have any fun in it. My brother and I swam anyway . Also, there’s a nice picnic grounds with tables to have lunch, and a remarkably clean outhouse nearby The ride back was the wettest boat ride I’ve ever had. The weather was fine except the wind. In one lake, when we hit a wave, we would get so soaked from just one wave that it was as if it was POURING rain on us! And so we drove our boat through “pouring rain” for about 10 minutes, but it was plenty of time to soak us head to toe (crap I’m being too repetitive. I hate when I do that)
-Eat a “masterly” filleted walleye. That was interesting. By just leaving her pole sitting on the dock, my mom caught a nice sized walleye . Again, no one has a fishing license plus we probably weren’t allowed to keep that one even if we did. What ever. We really wanted to try some fish, so we had my uncle fillet it. He didn’t do too good but at least he warned us. His frying job didn’t turn out too good either . The first half turned black . Fortunately, the unburned half was pretty tasty
-Witness meteors. Now THAT was really cool . I’m not sure if it was a shower or what or the name or anything. Anyways, the meteors were awesome. Most of them were just small little streamers, but it was cool all the same. At one point, there was ONE meteor that made that sky flash. It was amazing. If you do some research about meteors, you’ll find that the really big ones can be as bright as a lightning flash maybe. I think it would be soooooo awesome to witness a meteor storm.
Other things we did included eating dinner at the resort one night, visit another resort on the lake by car and looked around, paddle around in our super-cool paddle boat we got last year, see a bald eagle by our cabin, go tubing in our brand new flat tube, and sit out at night watching the stars and be amazed by the awesomeness. (you can see the milky way! COOL!)
I could write so much more about Minnesota but I’ll save you the pain
