Regardless of what happens to me in the next bazillion years, I've decided that if these forums get to a point where almost all the original users are completely gone and have 0% chance of coming back, these forums should be locked up for good to prevent a hostile takeover by robots and/or helpless/unintelligent newcomers with no access to knowledge or guidance or assistance of any kind.
Definitely not saying this will happen anytime soon. But it's not unlikely once all (meaningful) development of MB stops. Right now we've got a very healthy environment of development/discussion. But just because everything is in good shape doesn't mean that a trend isn't noticeable. I'd rather this was able to rest in peace than be swamped to the point where no one wants to visit. If it's left frozen in time in good shape, it will be able to provide resources to newcomers without being scared away by other newcomers.
This is purely a reflection. It's more of a I'm-not-too-concerned-what-happens-either-way kind of an appeal. For the future. Responses aren't expected, I'm basically just recording this on the offchance I'll see it again sometime.

The fundamental issue with this, is that every forum is a continual cycle. Who we look up to as the original members were once just as newbie as us. If everything was locked up, then the small inflow of people will completely be destroyed. Besides, PQ / PR should bring some new activity to the forum. Also, if you're proposing this for archival reasons, only the admin can modify the Rubbish board: and years worth of interesting stuff has been put there without being harmed by bots.
edit: This thread proves my point. There's still newcomers that aren't annoying, and we can give them actual help, whereas no other real resource online can do that in regards to MBP. In a couple years, the forum could be completely different from how it is now: maybe this guy's Council, maybe one of the current Council members is banned, you just don't know.

I'm with nobody. We don't want to just kill the forums because everyone left. We want it to evolve and keep moving on.
