Whenever I do the double nuke hit in Dizzying Highest, I never manage to get past the 1-unit section (only went to the top 3 times). Is there any trick I'm missing; I'd like to know.

Hit the center of the nukes dead on both times. It works for me. Well; it usually sends me too high, actually...
