Technically, you should (because you can). But since you didn't, I did. Yippee.

Get SmartScreen filter in the Windows Updates. It tells you if it's a safe file or not.

Actually, don't get the updates until the updates are outdated =P. If you've got an outdated OS, virtually no attacks will be targeted at you - one of my friends is still running XP with SP1, so basically no viruses are compatible with it.
Er.... I don't know whether compatible is the right word for it, but whatever.

Talking about malware does anybody know how to get rid of Autorun virus on your comp. Basicly its only removable HDD(Like Mp3s and other devices) virus that eats your HDD but also in most comps i have been this virus is in them. (If you open taskmanager in processes list you can see program caled crss ) As much as i know karspersky blocks autorun from running but it dont removes it.(It only removes it from HDD) So does anybody have any good solution to remove it? (P.S Spybot didnt remove it)

Ahhh, I've seen crss.exe like 2-3 weeks ago on the IRC channel of TASVideos (someone had it). You need to go into safemode and such. Google the damn thing Good thing you got Kaspersky stopping it.

It looks an awful lot like csrss.exe, which I think is normal.

It looks an awful lot like csrss.exe, which I think is normal. csrss.exe is a normal Windows system operation, you cannot exit or terminate it from Task Manager, it is not harmful to your computer in any way. If you delete it, however, it will probably cause your computer to BSOD or something. crss.exe is a worm which targets your information such as email and manipulates it if you follow its links, sometimes stealing your personal info such as passwords and contacts. It can be deleted by going into safe mode and following instructions (there are many tutorials on the net). An extra s makes all the difference. :x

I use AVG. Is that any good? It seems good. I use AVG too - but at the time I got it, it was one of the top ones. It still is, but if you're considering buying an antivirus, get Kaspersky instead - it's probably the top one these days.

@ktbold It's not the best. MSE and McAfee (microsoft security essentials) are the best in my opinion.

I think having no antivirus is probably better than having McAfee

McAfee, Norton and AVG are not recommended. I've seen people get infected easily even with AVG..
My recommendation is getting Nod32 or Kaspersky or AVAST (the latter has a free version). MSE is also pretty bad.

Norton is worstest ting you can get. I saw in one public comp how norton failed to remove Trojan. Virus simply copied itself many times. Norton detected every singly copy of it but if you press remove it says error. Last time i have been at this comp i saw that wole c drive was full for no reason. I consider virus copied itself so many times that wole c drive was full.

MSE is also pretty bad. I'm not getting Avast! Never. Once, I had it, and I accidently went on an infected page, and it just goes "CAUTION YOUR COMPUTER HAS A VIRUS!!!" it scared me for life.

I think having no antivirus is probably better than having McAfee This. I'd highly recommend purchasing Kaspersky or PrevX, as either one of these programs (from experience) will tell you immediately if there is suspicious programs trying to install on your computer, and can easily remove the spyware/malware before it becomes a problem. If you want a list of the top rated Anti-Virus programs, check this Consumer Reports Inspired article out. ~Aayrl

It feels stupid to me to torrent an antivirus program…
Seen as I’m not even supposed to *have* a copy of windows (my dad wouldn’t let me install it because he’s the biggest mac fanboy out there), me buying a windows antivirus would seem weird.
Any recommendations on what free antivirus to get, besides S&D, which I already have?
