Welcome to the Hangman Game! This game is based on the old word game of Hangman we've all played on long road trips. There are many different rules and twists in this version to make it suitable for an online forum.
How to Play
The object of this game is pretty basic. All you have to do is solve a word puzzle by guessing the letters that are in it. The puzzles will range from one word to several words long. Each puzzle will have a category with it, such as World City, Movie Title, Famous Person, etc. Some puzzles may be MB-related. Please keep this category in mind when guessing letters or trying to solve the puzzle.
After the word puzzle is posted, you have the chance to guess a letter. In your post, you must put one, and only one, letter. Some puzzles may require you to guess a number instead. After a while, if you think you know the solution to the puzzle, you may post it instead of a letter. Do not use any outside sources such as Google to assist you in solving a puzzle; try and use your brain instead.
A couple times per day, I will post the puzzle with any correctly guessed letters, along with people's scores and number of strikes (more on those below), plus all the guessed letters, numbers, and solutions. In between the times I post, you may only post once with a letter or a solution, no more. After I reveal some of the puzzle/scores/strikes, you can guess another letter. You are allowed to change your guess after the fact. However, you cannot edit your post if someone else has posted after you - instead you must delete your original guess and repost with your new guess.
Scoring
There are several ways to score points in this game. Each one will gain you points; you will never lose points.
If you guess a letter that is in the puzzle, you will get 1 point for each time the letter appears in the puzzle added to your score. For example, if you guess a letter that appears in the puzzle 3 times, you will get 3 points. If you correctly guess the solution to the puzzle, you will get 5 points added to your score.
The puzzles will be posted in rounds. Each round will have twenty puzzles in it. If you have the most points at the end of each round, you win a cookie!
Matan and I will take turns in doing the rounds.
Strikes
Certain things you do in the game will cost you a strike. The ways to get a strike are:
Be careful, though, because if you get two strikes, you're out. In other words, you cannot participate anymore in the puzzle. After the puzzle is solved and a new one begins, all your strikes disappear and you can resume playing.
Note: If someone gets ninja'd by someone else (meaning they posted at the same time on the clock) and both people posted the same letter, then the person whose post came first gets the points. The one who posted second will NOT get a strike for posting an already-guessed letter.
Special Rounds
For certain puzzles, I will add things that can get you extra points! A few of these are as follows:
Others to come as I think of them.

The next post will contain the first puzzle and the start of Round 1. Good luck!

Strikes
Certain things you do in the game will cost you a strike. The ways to get a strike are:
- guessing a letter that is not in the puzzle
- guessing a letter that has already been guessed by you or someone else
- posting twice between times I update the puzzle
- incorrectly solving the puzzle
Be careful, though, because if you get two strikes, you're out. In other words, you cannot participate anymore in the puzzle. After the puzzle is solved and a new one begins, all your strikes disappear and you can resume playing.
Note: If someone gets ninja'd by someone else (meaning they posted at the same time on the clock) and both people posted the same letter, then the person whose post came first gets the points. The one who posted second will NOT get a strike for posting an already-guessed letter.
Special Rounds
For certain puzzles, I will add things that can get you extra points! A few of these are as follows:
- Red Letters: Certain letters in a puzzle will be red-colored. If you can unscramble the letters to make a new word after solving the puzzle, you will get 2 extra points added to your score.
- Mystery Word: The puzzle will contain 2-3 phrases that begin with the same word. This word will be given by a "?" If you can guess this word, you will get 3 extra points added to your score.
- Double Play: Normal play occurs here, but all points are doubled. Solving a puzzle gives you 10 points, and points for letters are the number of letters times 2 (for example, a letter that appears three times will be worth 6 points instead of 3 points).
- Clue: The puzzle will be one of two things - either a description of an object, or a rebus puzzle. The person to correctly name the object being described or solve the rebus gets 3 points added to his score.
- Colored Letters: Like Red Letters, except these letters may have different point values. There is no special words to be solved from these letters.
- Solution Hangman: You cannot guess any letters, only answers. There will be a starting value of points which is reduced every update (letters are added in each update) and if you get it right, you win the remaining value points.
- Wheel of Fortune: Everyone may guess 1 vowel and 3 consonants and whoever has the highest amount of letters being present, has only his letters added and awarded the points. If you guess incorrect letters but still have at least one correct letter, you do not receive any strikes. Once all vowels are gone, you may choose only 3 consonants. If two or more people get the same amount of letters in the puzzle, all these letters are added.
- Scrabble: The letters in the puzzle are scored based on frequency in the English language, as in the board game Scrabble. Thus rare letters such as Q and Z are worth more than common letters such as E and T. Points are not multiplied by the number of times the letter called appears. Bonus spaces such as Double Letter, Triple Letter, and Word Reveal also appear in the puzzle. Solving the puzzle in this round is worth ten points.
- Buy a Vowel: Normal gameplay occurs here, except for the fact that guessing a vowel will cost the player two points. Points can still be won back depending on how many of that vowel occur in the puzzle.
Others to come as I think of them.
